Facilities
Relax in spacious comfortable bedrooms. All of our bedrooms have been tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished. The majority of the bedrooms are en-suite and the residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own belongings, including pictures and items of furniture. Passenger lifts provide easy access to all the floors.
Residents can choose to relax or socialise in any of the four recently refurbished sitting rooms where many of our activities take place. There are also plenty of additional areas where residents can meet with family or friends or just sit quietly with a paper or enjoy listening to music. At Silverleigh we understand the importance of keeping in touch with family and friends and so visitors are always welcome to join in with any of our activities or join us for refreshments or a meal.
We have recently opened 'The General Store' at Silverleigh. This is a non profit making shop where the residents are able to choose and purchase their toiletries and a wide variety of sweets and chocolates. The shop has been designed to recreate an old fashioned feel with a small area displaying memorabilia and lots of old advertising labels from years gone by. Loose sweets can also be bought, weighed out on old fashioned scales and sold in pink striped candy bags. The shop is proving to be very popular with all our residents.
We offer hairdressing for all our residents in our lovely hair salon, three days a week, and chiropody on a fortnightly basis. We employ a physiotherapist who works with our residents on one-to-one sessions and also takes three group classes a week. The residents are also able to go to the hydrotherapy pool in Axminster, twice a week for swimming sessions. Bowen Therapy takes place once a month and residents can be taken into Axminster to see their optician or dentist. In house appointments can also be made if required.
Cannon Care Homes employ an Aromatherapist who works at Silverleigh four days a month. She works closely with the Physiotherapist so they can work together on the individual needs of each resident.
Every week there is a full programme of organised activities including word games, quizzes, bingo and lexicon. We also have a Musician who works two days a week at Silverleigh. She spends the day developing musical activities with our residents, including group performances, sing songs and one-to-one sessions. At other times, she sits and plays relaxing music on the piano for our residents to enjoy.
Everyday there is an opportunity for a resident to take an early morning walk into Axminster, while others may prefer just to spend time outside in the very peaceful and sheltered gardens. We have plenty of seating areas with easy access for wheelchairs. A perfect place for afternoon tea and summer garden parties. Purpose built raised beds also provide the opportunity for a little gardening for our more green-fingered residents.
Our minibus takes our more adventurous residents out on visits to local places of interest five days a week, and when the weather permits, longer outings are planned.
Daily newspapers are delivered to Silverleigh and we also have visits from a mobile library.
For those residents unable to attend a Sunday Service in Axminster we hold a combined service with communion at Silverleigh once a month.
